Composition of the facade of the Palace of Celebrations in Tbilisi

The facade of the Palace of Celebrations in Tbilisi is symbolically saturated. The continuity, elongation and at the same time, the linearity of the lines here correspond to eternity and at the same time the complexity of life itself. The consistency principle of & mdash; objective existence and connection for the sake of the formation of a new life of two principles with their continued autonomy and equivalence.

In front of the main entrance there is a sculpture on the round pylon, inspired by the ancient statue of Dionysus, which was found on the territory of Georgia during archaeological excavations.

An important role in the composition of facades and interiors is played by color. The colors used by the author can conditionally be divided into architectonic and picturesque & mdash; figurative. The first group includes the color of doors, brass handrails, balusters, column bases, the most actively and subtly found color and pattern of floors, parapets and staircases, as well as the color of furniture, curtains and lamps. The second group includes colorful stained-glass windows of a geometric pattern, throwing colored & laquo; bunnies & raquo; on walls and floors, and exquisite in color and large-scale fresco on the background of which a wedding ceremony takes place. Together with the side frescoes, she highlights the main hall. An unusual lyrical motif is added to the ensemble of interiors by Nino Lordkipanidze's delicate colors. More traditional are bronze casting and chasing A.Japaridze. The motif of the tree of life is used in the figure of stained-glass windows and lamps. But dominates & mdash; indisputably and reasonably & mdash; White color.

The designs of a huge building with a very small number of frame sizes, arched lintels and other details are rationally and relatively simply solved. V. Jorbenadze considers the limitations, primarily technical, natural for the creative process of the architect, and a professional duty & mdash; get maximum expressiveness from a minimum of funds. It should be noted the high overall quality of construction and finishing works.

The emotional chord of the Palace fully and effectively includes lighting and music (bell ringing, folk chants, an installation is planned in the main hall of the organ).

The huge and complex building, of course, is not without flaws, not all decisions of the authors can be agreed. The number of secondary entrances seems exaggerated, although this contributes to the flexibility of the building; the relationship of some rooms is not clear; the expediency of arranging windows at a high height from the floor is not always obvious; placement and configuration of openings on the facades are not always convincing; desire for & laquo; purification & raquo; form led to a functionally unreasonable rejection of metal drains in window openings.

But the undoubted advantage of the Palace of Celebrations is its bright personality, predetermined in many respects by the personality of the leading author.

Viktor Nikolayevich Dzhorbenadze turned 60 years old in the year of completion of the Palace. He is a true patriot of Georgia and Tbilisi. His professional development organically combines interest in the history of Georgian architecture (known for his studies of churches such as Jvari), the collection of works of Georgian folk art and attention to modern processes in architecture. In his life, character and creativity, national and international, traditions and modernity, knowledge of technology and love for man-made craftsmanship naturally combine.

Among his design work is the vocational school building in Tbilisi, where one of the first in national architecture made an attempt to tactfully fit the new structure into the existing urban environment. The plane of the facade of his hotel in Oni is divided by an elegant shelf of balconies with transparent fencing, connecting a large modern building with historical buildings. In the memorial ensemble on the hill Mukhatgverdi cemetery on the outskirts of Tbilisi, Jorbenadze was looking not only for the memorable monumental form of ritual constructions, but also for new methods of reconstructing historical memory: for example, the main ritual hall was opened onto the silhouette of the Jvari temple visible beyond the valley. The museum of I. Chavchavadze in Kvareli is also monumental and dynamic, subtly inscribed in the historical environment. All these works combine conciseness, avarice in the selection of forms, restrained plasticity, high taste, attention to detail.
