It is believed that the name of the ancient people was reflected in the name of Amirani, on the basis of which the late formation of Georgian tribes took place. The legend reflected myths, ideas, social relations of Georgians. The image of Amirani is close to the image of the ancient Greek hero Prometheus.

Oral legends about Amirani are small prose-poetic narratives in small volumes, and the poetic parts are quite specific. Prose and poetic parts sometimes duplicate each other in content. Poems about Amirani in the form of independent fragments were often performed during festivals and rituals, accompanied by round dances and dramatized, which, perhaps, should be considered as a trace of the ancient cult of Amirani.

Separate recorded versions contain only scattered episodes, and the more or less complete plot composition of the tale is restored when they are compared.

Amirani & mdash; son of the hunting goddess Dali. He is born three months after the hunter, fulfilling the request of the dying mother goddess, cuts her womb and removes the tiny baby. Mother regrets that he appeared before the appointed time: he would have no equal in strength. According to Dali’s will, the boy is raised for six months, first in the stomach of a young heifer, then & mdash; in the stomach of a fierce bull.

Later, the dev (mythological creature) swallows Amirani, but the hero goes outside, cutting a side from the monster. Amirani receives a wonderful sword that is forged and tempered in a special way. Among the heroic deeds performed by the hero alone or in conjunction with two companions, the fight against monsters for the devil’s eye captured by them, the meeting with the one-eyed dev, punishment of the hero by the deity for excessive pride, the test of his raising incredible gravity, the revival of the murdered Amirani, his help from him stand out Kamar's bride in the fight against the enemy. The culmination of the story cycle about Amirani is the story of the search and abduction of fire, and as a punishment for his feat, the hero was chained to a giant rock.
